Thank you for visiting my site and considering me as your newborn photographer. I'd be honored to photograph this special time in your life! Here are some answers to FAQs:
Q: How much are sessions? What is included?
Newborn sessions are a flat rate of $350 including the edited digital images.
Here is what is included in each session:
Q: When should I book my session?
A: Ideally, sessions should be booked when you're still pregnant to ensure availability. Of course, I will work with you and make adjustments as your due date gets closer. Newborns should be no more than 2 weeks old because that's when we can pose them without too much fuss. Photo shoots when your newborn is between 5-10 days old is ideal.
Most photographers charge extra for a weekend shoot; however, since I teach during the week, I only do weekend shoots. There are some exceptions, such as during breaks where I get time off. Thus, I usually book 1-2 months in advance since I only do a limited number of shoots per month. I also only book one photo shoot a weekend to ensure that your shoot gets the attention and time it deserves.
Q: How should I prepare for the photo shoot?
A: Well, there's no need to get fancy for me. Wear comfortable clothing and a solid colored top if you get in some shots. Please try to keep your newborn awake as much as possible so that he/she will fall into a deep sleep during the photo shoot. Try to feed about 15-30 minutes before I arrive, and undress him/her but leave the diaper on. It's ideal if your lil' one is already asleep by the time that I arrive so that we can start posing. I prefer to take pictures with the diaper on hidden by bottoms and wraps. This just makes life easier for us all since we won't have to stop to clean up messes or wake up the baby by changing him/her.
Clear space in a room that has good, natural lighting. If you have a space heater, you'll want to start warming up the room to get it nice and cozy. I may ask for your help when an extra pair of hands comes in handy (no pun intended), but otherwise, there will be stretches of time where you won't have anything to do. I will be posing and clicking away. Think of me as a photographer/babysitter!
Q: Do you wash your props?
A: Yes! I inherited the clean freak gene, so I wash all props after use. I'm the person who actually washes their hands for the recommended 20 seconds. And yes, I do that thing where you use the paper towel or your shirt to open the bathroom door handle.
Q: I see some really cute poses that I would like. Can you make that happen?
A: I think parent input is great! Please let me know if there is a pose that you'd like me to try. I don't believe in jeopardizing a baby's safety though to get "the shot," so we can discuss if your desired poses are feasible.
Q: How long does it take to get edited pictures? How do I receive them?
A: Edited photos will take about 2 weeks, although I try to get them to you sooner. I know how eager and excited parents are to see the pictures! I will notify you via email when your pictures are ready to be viewed in PASS, which is a photo gallery service. You can then download all of your images in PASS. No more CDs, DVDs, and flash drives to deal with!
Q: My baby is breaking out like a prepubescent teen. Should I cancel?
A: It's typical for newborns to have some dry skin, red marks, acne, etc. I can get rid of the majority of skin blemishes in editing, but please contact me if you're concerned. If only we could be Photoshopped on our bad hair days!
Q: I love discounts! Do you offer any?
A: I am happy to offer a $50 discount to military and low-income families! Please ask for more information.
Q: Ok--you've convinced me and I would like to book with you! What do I need to do?
A: That's great! A 50% non-refundable retainer and signed contract is required to book a session. Even if we've spoken, I cannot guarantee a session date until I receive a retainer. This is so that I don't get stood up by parents :(
Due to the nature of custom photography, refunds are not issued.
